About BIAPR:
The Brain Injury Association Peterborough Region (BIAPR) provides non-medical resources and community support services to individuals living with an acquired brain injury (ABI). Our services include community integration strategies, referrals, program activities, and social events. We offer supports at our head office in Peterborough and through outreach in surrounding counties.

BIAPR is currently seeking an experienced and passionate leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic organization committed to supporting individuals with ABI and their families through advocacy, education, and innovative programming.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization, overseeing the provision of quality services in accordance with the organization’s vision, mission, and values.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Provide Leadership:

  • Maintain awareness of trends in the brain injury sector to ensure the organization remains responsive to changing community needs.
  • Ensure collaboration with funding sources, planning bodies, service providers, consumers, and families to provide comprehensive brain injury services.
  • Support and participate in systemic advocacy, resource development, and public education activities.
  • Provide leadership to personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.

2. Organizational Effectiveness and Performance Management:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services.
  • Ensure evaluation of services for outcome analysis, consumer satisfaction, and reporting to funding sources.
  • Develop and implement organizational policies, ensuring compliance with best practices and regulations.

3. Serve as the Staff Resource to the Board of Directors:

    • Work with the Board President to enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions.
    • Assist the Board in developing strategic plans and operational policies.
    • Serve as an ex-officio member on all Board Committees and provide necessary resources for Board meetings.

4. Human Resources Planning and Management:

    • Establish an organizational structure to ensure accountability and quality program delivery.
    • Direct the management team and provide professional development opportunities.
    • Implement a performance management process to evaluate staff performance and maintain high standards.

5. Represent the Organization:

    • Represent BIAPR to funding and regulatory bodies, community stakeholders, and the public.
    • Advocate for brain injury awareness and ensure it remains a priority in health planning processes.
    • Oversee public relations efforts, including media relations and community outreach.

6. Financial Planning and Management:

    • Manage the organization’s budget and financial resources to ensure sustainability.
    • Oversee financial operations, including grant applications, donor engagement, and fundraising efforts.
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and effective resource utilization.

7. Legal Compliance & Risk Management:

    • Ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify and mitigate risks to protect clients, staff, and the organization’s reputation.
    • Maintain adequate insurance coverage and risk management policies.

8. Professional Development:

    • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance leadership skills and industry knowledge.
    • Stay updated on best practices in the ABI sector and implement continuous improvement strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in the social services sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Expertise in the mental health field, including knowledge of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and risk management.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships with stakeholders, funders, and community organizations.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check).
