Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the absolute backbone of BIAPR. Whether they are assisting our professional staff inside our active Day Services or offering direct companionship to a client, their gift of time fundamentally transforms lives.

Consider the real-world impact of John H., our dedicated woodworking volunteer. John doesn't just help clients cut and shape pieces of wood; he helps them rebuild their broken confidence, develop fine motor control, and rediscover a deep sense of daily purpose. Just like John, any member of our community has the power to change a life simply by choosing to be consistently present.

Our Safety, Screening & Training Protocols

Because our agency serves a uniquely vulnerable demographic, we enforce the highest standards of safety and professional screening. We provide all prospective volunteers with a thorough, comprehensive training framework to ensure they possess a strong, comfortable working knowledge of brain injury dynamics before ever entering a service space. Our strict mandatory requirements include:

  1. Vulnerable Sector Check: An absolute background check completed via local police services to guarantee client security.
  2. Policy & Safety Training: Complete instruction regarding our physical transfers, sensory boundary rules, and privacy protection protocols.
  3. Strategic Activity Matching: Following successful clearance, we match volunteers to explicit tracks based on their personal interests, professional goals, and cognitive compatibility.

Active Volunteer Tracks

  • Companionship: Providing direct one-on-one interaction through structured table games, shared reading, or cognitive writing assistance.
  • Program Facilitation: Directly supporting our Recreational Therapists with expressive arts, physical setup, or meal coordination.
  • Administrative Support: Assisting our internal office team with data sorting, community mailouts, and phone coordination.
