BIAPR was founded in 1988. It was the first community-based brain injury association in the Counties of Peterborough, Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes), Haliburton, and Northumberland.
In the beginning, the Association facilitated support groups and made outreach phone calls to caregivers and family members of those with brain injuries.
Partnerships were formed and facilities improved when, in 2010, the CE LHIN allocated funding for the relocation of the City of Peterborough’s Association to an accessible and barrier-free location. Additional services were added through the early years, and BIAPR grew into a dynamic Agency, providing a range of community supports and services to a clientele with diverse and complex needs.
